Seven Nationally Acclaimed
Organizations From 5 States to Collaborate in The Most Competitive
Amateur League in The United States
AUGUST
5, 2020 – The Northeast Elite Soccer League is excited to launch
the North East Super League (NESL) featuring seven competitive,
nationally acclaimed clubs from US Adult Soccer Region I. Through the
collaboration of several State Associations, the league is sanctioned
with both US Soccer and US Adult Soccer.
The
league includes teams with a rich history of championships at the
national, regional, state and league levels. Five of these sides
impressively qualified for the 2020 Lamar Hunt Cup. The league boasts
a diverse and stacked talent pool with accomplished backgrounds and
ambitious futures.
The
seven founding members include reigning US Amateur Cup holder Newtown
Pride FC of Connecticut, 6-time national champions Christos FC of
Maryland, former national Werner Fricker Cup champion West Chester
United SC and historic club Vereinigung Erzgebirge of Eastern
Pennsylvania, New Jersey powerhouses FC Motown and Jackson Lions FC
who combined to win the NESL summer league in 2018 and Safira FC of
Massachusetts, 4-time US Futsal National Champions. These teams not
only have shown their worth on the pitch, they have expanded their
programs to include the local soccer community and create the full
club soccer atmosphere. The NESL is the premier amateur league in the
United States that can brag of its quality from the top to the
bottom.
Initial
plans had the competition starting this fall but with the current
global pandemic, the league is eyeing a formal and responsible spring
of 2021 launch at venues with fans. If possible, tournaments or
friendlies may be played later in the year. The situation will
continue to be monitored so that guidance from health officials will
ensure decisions are actively promoting the safety and wellness of
all involved.
Down the road, the league looks to expand bringing an exciting format
to allow other Region I teams to participate in the best amateur
league in the country; a high energy, fast-paced, competitive soccer
environment night in and night out.
The
NESL will work in tandem, and without threatening, the success of
local and state leagues to bring this Super League to life. Several
of the founding teams will continue their league and state play
simultaneous to the efforts of the NESL. Look for future releases
about the best in the amateur game that showcases talented players
from across USASA Region I.
In a
joint statement, founding member General Managers stated:
“We
pledge to bring the most competitive and exciting brand of pro-am
soccer to the United States that will act as a pillar to regions
across the country.
This
is the exclamation point of years of dedication from teams with
proven success and are devoted to elevating our organizations to a
higher threshold.
This
collaboration heightens our commitment to excellence both on the
pitch and in our local communities. Our commitment to the game has
never wavered and we will use this platform and vision, through this
league, to create the best opportunities for our players, staff and
fans.”
